Lowcountry Orphan Relief, Inc. (LOR) is a non-profit organization that provides goods and services to children who have been victim to abuse and/or neglect. We work directly with other non-profits, schools, foster parents, and government agencies to identify the individual needs of these and other children in low-income situations. LOR intervenes at critical junctures in the lives of these children, with products and services that provide a strong positive impact.
What We Do
From our Children’s Closet, to annual events for children and special projects for local group homes, we are dedicated to meeting the needs of abandoned, abused and neglected children in the Tri-County Area.

Watch for LORI around town as she fills up to help children in the Lowcountry by providing them with necessities including clothing, coats, underwear, socks, school supplies, toiletries and much more. Click on “Donations” above, for information on how you can help.
How We Help
- Create libraries at group homes and fill them with wonderful seating, shelving and books for all ages.

- Host annual “Make A Child Happy Day” event each October which enables abused and foster children to get out of their environment and enjoy themselves for a full day of fun and love. If you would like to help, contact Mary Courtney Brooks at mcourtneyland@hotmail.com. This year’s date is October 16, 2010.
- Host annual ”Beach Day” at Folly Beach for children from the emergency shelters and foster homes. August 7, 2010 is this year’s date. If you would like to help, contact Mary Courtney Brooks at mcourtneyland@hotmail.com.
- We served 2,132 children in 2009 providing them clothing, underwear, socks, shoes, toiletries, school supplies, and more.
Our Vision
To ensure that abused, abandoned or neglected children coming into the system will have in their possession clothes, toiletries, school supplies and any other personal needs within 48 hours.
To own and maintain a ”clothing closet” that is staffed and supplied with essential items for abused, neglected and needy children.
To organize fundraisers, raise money and secure in-kind donations.
To create fun events for these children where they will be enriched, nurtured and loved.
To build a new single-gender group home for girls on Johns Island.
To assist existing shelters by creating on-site libraries, and purchasing items such as beds and washer/dryers for them.
